Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Molloy — the need for action to secure EU agreement to the introduction of a new third tier of extremely disadvantaged areas for peripheral mountain regions and areas subject to severe flooding; (2) Deputy Ó Cuív — the need to provide alternative housing for families in the south Galway area whose houses have been flooded for the past six weeks and are likely to be flooded for the foreseeable future; (3) Deputy Lynch — the urgent need for Ireland to declare a unilateral ban on the manufacture or assembly of landmines, instruments of torture or their components; and to campaign in international fora for a world wide ban on the manufacture, assembly, trade and use of such instruments; (4) Deputy Sargent — the use of the £25 million equity for TEAM Aer Lingus; and the need to increase the market share of TEAM and to instil confidence in the workforce at TEAM; (5) Deputy Michael P Kitt — the need for the appointment of a remedial teacher to Mountbellew, Moylough, Cooloo and Briarfield national schools; (6) Deputy Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly)— the urgent need to introduce a programme of education and training for those in the judicial system, including lawyers and members of the Judiciary, involved in cases of sexual crimes against children; (7) Deputy Connor — the need for additional funds to be allocated for the roads network in County Roscommon in view of damage caused by exceptionally heavy rainfall in recent months; (8) Deputy Séamus Brennan — instructions issued by the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to the ESB in relation to a deadline for implementing cost-cutting measures; (9) Deputy Seán Kenny — the application for funding under the EU urban initiative by Dublin Corporation and the Ballymun, Finglas and Northside Partnerships; (10) Deputy Michael McDowell — the immediate threat to jobs in Ireland and to exports from this country arising from the present currency turbulence; (11) Deputy Quill — the application by the Southern Health Board for additional funding to tackle the crisis arising from the shortage of hospital beds in Cork city; (12) Deputy O'Donnell — the need to respond to public concern at the sentencing trends in child abuse cases and (13) Deputy Tom Kitt — the need to make arrangements for the appointment of the necessary additional inspectors by the Health and Safety Authority, as a matter of urgency.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Deputies Michael McDowell, Ó Cuív, Michael P. Kitt and Séamus Brennan.
