Vol. 451 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin Manufacturing Company.

Eamon Walsh

Ceist:

58 Mr. E. Walsh asked the Minister for Health the action, if any, he will take to save a caliper manufacturing company (details supplied) in Dublin 22 in view of the fact that this is the only Irish company that manufactures these products for disabled people and if this company fails it will be an Irish industry lost to a foreign company; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6438/95]

Limerick East): My Department is not responsible for funding commercial enterprises. Nevertheless, in view of the services offered by the company in question, I asked the Eastern Health Board to meet with the company to determine what assistance, if any, the board could offer it. At this meeting which took place last week, the board was informed that the company's financial position has improved considerably since the end of 1994 and that it is now trading at a profit. It was agreed that the board would examine a number of options which would assist the company's financial position and service provision in the future. I understand that the company is in negotiation with FÁS to seek to retain a grant it has been receiving from FÁS since 1990.
