Vol. 451 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Galway Flooding.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

38 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Finance the action, if any, he proposes to take to alleviate the flooding on the Sligo/Limerick railway line near Gort, County Galway, which is having serious effects on the viability of the western freight corridor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6319/95]

The flooding of the Sligo/Limerick railway line near Gort, County Galway is connected with the general flooding problem in the South Galway area and will be examined as part of the multi-disciplinary study being commissioned at present by the Commissioners of Public Works into the flooding problem in the Gort-Ardrahan area of South Galway.

Responsibility for maintaining freight services in operation is a matter for Iarnrod Éireann. I am advised that freight services between Limerick and Claremorris were re-routed in order to by-pass the flooded areas.
