Vol. 451 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Relief.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Ceist:

45 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Finance whether it is intended to give tax relief on payments of water service charges to group water schemes; whether it is intended to give tax relief on capital contributions made to group water schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5007/95]

In my budget speech I stated that arising from the commitment by the Government in its policy agreement, I will be providing an income tax allowance at the standard rate up to a maximum of £150 in respect of local authority service charges which are paid in full and on time.

Since that announcement representations have been made to me proposing the extension of the water charges tax allowance to group water schemes. These representations are being examined by my Department in consultation with the Department of Environment and the Revenue Commissioners, in the context of the forthcoming Finance Bill.
