Ceist:

51 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of taxation in all forms taken from motorists in the Republic in 1994. [5048/95]

The latest available information for 1994 indicates that some £1.4 billion was collected from all vehicle related taxes, including those on fuel. These taxes comprise Excise Duty, Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT), VAT and Motor Vehicle Duties (MVD). The detailed data are set out as follows:

It should be noted that
(i) these receipts figures are provisional and may be subject to some minor amendment;
(ii) the excise system makes no distinction between motor fuel used in commercial and private vehicles and accordingly a breakdown of receipts along these lines is not available;
(iii) as VAT returns are not compiled in a manner which would enable the yield from particular goods and services to be identified, the figures for VAT are estimated.
