Vol. 452 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ringaskiddy (Cork) Port.

Liam Burke

Ceist:

65 Mr. L. Burke asked the Minister for the Marine the plans, if any, he has to extend the free port area at Ringaskiddy, County Cork; if he has satisfied himself with the present level of activity at Ringaskiddy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7443/95]

I have no plans to extend the free port area at Ringaskiddy, County Cork. The fact that no new industry has located in the free port area in the recent past is disappointing but with the advent of the Single Market the advantages of free ports are much reduced.

However, I am satisfied with the present level of port related activities in Cork Harbour in general and at the Ringaskiddy Ferry Terminal and deep-water berth in particular. These activities are not, of course, dependent on the free port concept.
