Vol. 452 No. 5

Written Answers. - Traffic and Parking By-Laws.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

62 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for the Environment if he will respond positively to correspondence from a person (details supplied) in County Cork concerning the need to amend the Traffic and Parking By-Laws, 1986, to permit the issuing by local authorities of permits to allow residents and business people to park outside their own houses or premises for longer than the specified parking times. [8288/95]

The making of traffic and parking by-laws, or any amendment of such by-laws, is a matter for the Garda Commissioner under sections 89 and 90 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961. While my consent is required to any such by-laws, no proposals have been submitted to me in the case in question.

I will reply shortly to the recent correspondence referred to.
