Vol. 452 No. 5

Written Answers. - Lead in Drinking Water.

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

77 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to a report commissioned by the Minister for the Environment and carried out by Dublin Corporation's Central Laboratory into the incidence of lead in drinking water; and if her attention has been further drawn to a school in which the incidence of lead in drinking water was significantly above the 50 microgramme maximum allowed by law; her views on the appropriate level of disclosure regarding this matter; the steps, if any, she intends to take to inform parents and teachers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8212/95]

My Department has not been formally notified of the report to which the Deputy refers although I am aware from media reports of the issue referred to in the question. My Department is in touch with the Department of the Environment and Dublin Corporation in the matter and decisions will be taken on the appropriate course of action when all the facts have been established.
