Vol. 452 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin School Equipment Funding.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

84 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education, arising from her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 8 of 3 May 1995, if she will give consideration to Stanhope Street Convent primary school, Dublin 7 for official assistance to obtain computers in view of the many disadvantaged children which the school caters for. [8321/95]

I am not aware of an application for the provision of a computer having been received from the school referred to by the Deputy. The school in question is included in the disadvantaged areas scheme and as such has an additional concessionary teaching post and receives additional capitation funding which for the coming school year is being increased to £25 per pupil. This will bring the total capitation funding to £65 per pupil.

All applications for the provision of a computer are considered in the light of available resources. Priority is given to pupils with special needs for whom a computer would be of particular assistance.
