A weekly supplement is payable under the supplementary welfare allowance scheme towards the rent costs of persons, in receipt of a health board or social welfare payment, whose means are insufficient to meet their needs.
Expenditure for all health boards on rent supplementation in 1994 was £44.8 million. At the beginning of December 1994 the number of rent supplements in payment was approximately 30,800.
