Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dáil Constituency Polling Schemes.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

155 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment the last date upon which he approved a revised polling scheme for each of the Dáil constituencies; the constituencies which are currently revising their polling schemes; the number of occasions on which he has used his power under section 28 (3) of the Electoral Act, 1992, to require a modification of a proposed polling scheme; and the reason for the use of this power on any such occasion. [8890/95]

Section 28 of the Electoral Act, 1992 provides for the making by each county council and county borough corporation of a polling scheme dividing its functional area into polling districts for the purposes of Dáil, European and local elections and appointing a polling place for each district.

Since coming into office, I have neither confirmed a polling scheme nor instructed that a scheme be modified. Two polling schemes are currently under examination in my Department. No information is available on the number of local authorities currently revising their polling schemes.
