Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - School Transport.

M. J. Nolan

Ceist:

159 Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the provision of a school bus for children attending a school (details supplied) in County Carlow. [8600/95]

Under the terms of the school transport scheme, there must be a minimum of ten eligible children in a district locality in order to warrant the setting up of a transport service to a national school. Only eligible children may be counted towards the establishment of a service.

At present, there are eight eligible children offering for transport to the school in question. Although other children have applied for transport to this school, they are ineligible, as they are not attending their nearest national school. It is not open to me to establish a service at this time, as the minimum number required has not been met.
