Ceist:

226 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for the Marine in view of the completion of the harbours facility at St. Michael's Wharf, Dún Laoghaire, the plans if any, he has for a marina in Dún Laoghaire harbour; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8649/95]

Ceist:

227 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for the Marine the plans, if any, he has for the future of Dún Laoighaire Harbour in the context of a marina or marinas: and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8878/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 226 and 227 together.

The Government is strongly committed to the optimum development of the leisure and recreational potential of Dún Laoghaire Harbour.

The essential base technical information, including detailed site investigation and comprehensive wave analysis, to facilitate the installation of marine facilities has been completed. The information obtained from these studies has been made available to interested parties.
Comprehensive consultations, through the recreational committee of the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Board, with harbour users and other interested parties, have elicited a number of potential development and recreational projects. The financial viability of some of these projects is being professionally assessed at the moment.
If these projects prove to be technically and financially viable and attract a reasonable degree of support, my Department will do everything in its power to facilitate their progression to the planning stage.
For the information of the Deputy both the Minister of State, Deputy Eamon Gilmore, and I recently met with the commodores of the main yacht clubs to hear their views on any proposals.
