Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

30 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has to alter the age at which animals qualify for beef premia; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8771/95]

The provisions governing the age at which animals qualify for the special beef premium are set down in EU Regulations which were agreed as part of the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy in 1992. Any alteration to these provisions would require agreement at the Council of Ministers. The age requirements for the special beef premium are well suited to beef production patterns in Ireland and I do not intend to seek to have them altered.
