Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - Training for Voluntary Carers.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

120 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health the training that is currently available to help people acquire specific skills required by their voluntarily assumed duties as carers; and the plans, if any, he has to extend the availability of such training. [8891/95]

Limerick East): Health boards, sometimes in conjunction with other statutory and voluntary agencies, promote and sponsor courses for carers to enable them to acquire specific skills and insights in relation to their tasks as carers. These training courses are usually facilitated by public health nursing staff, occupational therapists, health education staff and other health care professionals. I would fully support the provision of such training courses for carers.
