Written Answers. - Local Government Funding.
The statement to which I referred in the House on 1 February is one on the role of local government and its future development. This is as recommended in the Barrington report and in accordance with the Government's Programme for Renewal and is the essential prelude to an Implementation Commission on Local Government Reform.
That statement is now being finalised and will be published in the reasonably near future.
I made clear then that the issue of local government financing requires separate but related consideration. This is being undertaken by the Minister for the Environment.
