Vol. 453 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rathfarnham (Dublin) Garda Station.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

146 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the need to assign additional gardaí to Rathfarnham Garda Station in order to ensure the proper policing of the Rathfarnham/Knocklyon, Ballyboden and Scholarstown areas; and the steps, if any, she will take to ensure that requests for additional gardaí are acted upon. [9224/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the current strength at Rathfarnham Garda Station is 64. A community garda is assigned to each of the four areas referred to by the Deputy. In addition a sergeant has recently been assigned to the community policing unit with a view to enhancing the liaison between the Garda Síochána and the local community.

The areas mentioned are patrolled on a 24 hour basis and, if necessary, the divisional task force based at Crumlin can be called on for assistance.

The Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of manpower and resources, have informed me that they are satisfied that the policing strengths of the areas are adequate at the present time. However, the situation will be kept under constant review and when manpower next becomes available, the allocation of additional resources to the Rathfarnham area will be considered in the context of the overall requirements in the Dublin Metropolitan Area.
