Vol. 453 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Longford Flooding.

Albert Reynolds

Ceist:

63 Mr. A. Reynolds asked the Minister for Finance the reason Newtowncashel, County Longford was excluded from the Government's nine priority areas for the design of flood relief works, in view of the suffering and hardship that had to be endured by local farmers in recent months; and if he will review the position in conjunction with Longford County Council. [9569/95]

The Commissioners of Public Works do not have sufficient data in relation to the problems at Newtowncashel, County Longford to enable a flood relief scheme be designed immediately. The area will be considered among other areas, which are liable to flooding, for inclusion on the priority list of flood relief schemes to be drawn up after the passing of the Arterial Drainage (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1995.
