96 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if it is likely that another semi-State company other than Telecom Eireann will be involved in bidding for the second Irish mobile phone network. [9635/95]
The Deputy will appreciate that involvement by any of the State bodies in consortia applying to become the second GSM (global system mobile), operator is, in the first instance, a matter for the State bodies concerned. I am aware that certain State bodies under the aegis of my Department are involved in discussions with a number of parties interested in this matter. I have made it clear to the State bodies concerned that they will require my approval before entering into any legal commitments.
