Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beijing Conference.

Liz O'Donnell

13 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the person co-ordinating the preparations for the international conference in Beijing; the stage to which the preparations have progressed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9724/95]

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

28 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the preparations, if any, that have been made by him for the international conference in Beijing; the number of officials from his Department involved in those preparations; and the persons who will attend the conference. [9723/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 13 and 28 together.

Preparations for the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women have been under way in my Department for some time. Officials from my Department have attended preparatory meetings in Vienna, Toledo, Brussels and New York and Ireland will be represented at further such meetings between now and the date of the conference.

Ireland's national report to the conference was published in October 1994 and I intend publishing a supplement to the report in advance of the conference. The supplement will consist of submissions from non-governmental organisations which were not available at the time of printing the national report and organisations are being invited to send submissions to my Department for inclusion.

The number of officials involved in preparatory work varies. A national co-ordinating committee was established to oversee preparations. This committee is chaired by my Department.

The final composition of the national delegation to the conference has not been decided. I intend to lead the delegation.
