Vol. 453 No. 7

Written Answers. - Adult Transport Service.

Michael P. Kitt

Ceist:

91 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education the extra cost involved in providing an adult transport service, two students per seat, for students over 15 years of age attending second level schools; and the plans if any, she has to implement such a service. [9974/95]

The extra cost involved in substituting the present three pupils to two seats arrangement with an adult seating arrangement, that is, an individual seat for each student over 15 years of age, would be in the region of £5 million.

As substantial cost would be involved in introducing such a service, and as all statutory regulations relating to carrying capacity laid down by the Department of the Environment are being adhered to, I have no plans to implement an adult service as sought.
