Vol. 453 No. 8

Written Answers. - Irish-Made Furniture.

James Leonard

Ceist:

82 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Finance the proportion of furniture supplied by the Office of Public Works to the various Government and public bodies which was Irish made. [10080/95]

It is not feasible to determine the Irish manufacture content for all furniture items procured by the Office of Public Works. Given the nature, range and diversity of the products involved, Irish manufacture content can vary depending on such factors as availability of items, components and material involved and economies of scale in the context of the Irish market.

However, it is estimated that about 80 per cent of the furniture supplied to Government Departments and Offices by the Office of Public Works is Irish-made in the broad sense of this term with the remainder from other European Union countries mainly through Irish suppliers.
