Vol. 453 No. 8

Written Answers. - Location of Motor Taxation Office.

Denis Foley

Ceist:

94 Mr. Foley asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve the submission by Kerry County Council regarding the relocation of the motor taxation office from its present temporary location to a permanent location at the County Council headquarters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10038/95]

In January 1993, Kerry County Council had put a proposal to my Department for alternative accommodation for its motor taxation office. At that time, a building adjacent to the council headquarters and suitable for conversion to accommodate the motor taxation office was due to become available. The Department did not accept at the time the need for alternative accommodation; the existing office was regarded as generally satisfactory and considerable funds had been provided for it by the Department over the years.

My Department is now considering a proposal submitted in January 1995 by the county council for the provision of accommodation in a new building to be erected near the county council headquarters in Tralee. This consideration must have due regard to the level of commitments and competing demands on the motor taxation recoupment budget nationally. A decision will be made as soon as possible and notified to the council.
