Written Answers. - Proposed Dublin Community College.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

111 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if she has received correspondence from a local north inner city group representing community and educational interests requesting a meeting to discuss the development of the vocational education committee-owned site at Sean McDermott Street, Dublin 1, for a second level community college; and if she will have arrangements made to meet the group before any decision is made to ensure local consultation and involvement in the decision-making process. [10432/95]

Ceist:

112 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if a decision will be announced at her scheduled meeting with City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee regarding the use of the site at Sean McDermott Street, Dublin 1. [10433/95]

Bertie Ahern

Ceist:

139 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the decision, if any, she has made in relation to the proposed community college for the north inner city at the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee site in Sean McDermot Street, Dublin 1; and if a decision has not been made, if she will meet with local groups to discuss this matter. [10398/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 111, 112 and 139 together.

A decision has not yet been taken regarding the provision of a community college on the site at Waterford Street-Seán McDermott Street owned by City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee.

Officials from my Department met with representatives of the committee, yesterday, to discuss a number of possibilities with regard to the most appropriate educational use for the site. A decision was not announced at the meeting. The outcome of the meeting is now being assessed.

Due to a heavy schedule of commitments, I am not in a position to meet with a local group at an early date to discuss the issues. However if the Deputy contacts the planning section of my Department arrangements can be made for such a meeting with officials at an early date.
