Smith asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding Cootehill sewerage scheme; if it has been included for funding under INTERREG II; when the contract documents were approved; when tenders will be sought; the time schedule for the completion of the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. EU co-financing of this project is being sought under a Cohesion Fund application for an Erne catchment water management scheme rather than from INTERREG II. While my Department gave conditional approval to Cavan County Council in August 1991 in relation to the contract documents for the project, this has not yet been confirmed pending the outcome of the Cohesion Fund application. Further progress with the progress awaits the outcome of that application.

Ballyconnell sewerage scheme has been included for funding under the INTERREG II programme. Before approving contract documents, my Department has requested certain further information from Cavan County Council regarding sludge treatment and disposal and this is awaited. It is intended to advance the scheme as quickly as possible following approval of the contract documents.
