37 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Health if he intends to provide finance for the provision of alzheimer's accommodation in Merlin Park Hospital, Galway, in view of an application from the Western Health Board for such funding. [11084/95]
Limerick East): In the first instance the provision of a unit for alzheimer patients in Merlin Park Hospital, Galway, is the responsibility of the Western Health Board. I understand from the board that they propose to establish a special service for the elderly mentally infirm at Unit 8, Merlin Park Regional Hospital. However, before approval for funding can be given for this unit, I must take into account the overall priorities of the Western Health Board and competing projects for funding from the other health boards.
