The role of monitoring animal welfare at Dublin Zoo has been assigned to my Department and inspections have commenced with a view to ensuring satisfactory animal welfare standards. In addition to regular inspections by one of my veterinary inspectors, an independent zoo expert from the UK has been retained to act as consultant inspector and to make recommendations as appropriate.
