Ceist:

63 Mr. Power asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in the commencement of the south Kildare regional water supply scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11484/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 62 and 63 together.

Contract documents for these schemes are with my Department. Both schemes envisaged increased abstraction of water from the Old Kilcullen reservoir which in turn is supplied from Dublin Corporation's water production plant at Ballymore Eustace. A major strategic study of water requirements in the Dublin region has been commissioned by my Department and is in progress. Water supply investment proposals for the Dublin region generally, including in this context the south Kildare and Monasterevan schemes, will be considered in the light of this study which is expected to be completed by early 1996.
