Vol. 454 No. 7

Written Answers. - European Single Aviation Market.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

91 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the current position regarding the European Single Aviation Market; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11552/95]

The Single Market in air transport came into effect from 1 January 1993 and Irish national law has been amended, where necessary, to take full account of the Single Market conditions. The Single Market for air transport purposes now comprises the 15 member states and also Norway and Iceland. The rules which came into effect on 1 January 1993 cover the areas of air carrier licensing, access for Community air carriers to intra-Community air routes, fares and rates for air services, and amendments to Regulations laying down the procedure for the application of the rules on competition to undertakings in the air transport sector and on the application of Article 85 (3) of the Treaty to certain categories of agreements and concerted practices in the air transport sector.
