Vol. 454 No. 8

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Eric Byrne — the implications for media diversity of the absence from the market of the Irish Press, Evening Press and Sunday Press, and the consequent attempt by News International to further penetrate the Irish newspaper market; Deputy Kathleen Lynch — the urgent need to ensure that Bus Éireann's fleet is wheelchair-accessible; Deputy Joe Walsh — the need to clarify the plans for ESB shops in rural towns in view of public comments by the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications on the restructuring of the ESB.

I consider the matters raised by Deputies Eric Byrne and Kathleen Lynch to be in order and have selected them for discussion.
