Vol. 455 No. 1

Written Answers. - NCVA Awards.

Joe Walsh

Ceist:

95 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Education the arrangements, if any, in place to allow for the entry of 500 students to the country's regional technical colleges using the NCVA-accredited post-Leaving Certificate route as per the pilot scheme for the academic year 1995-96; the distribution of the places among the colleges; the courses to which students may be admitted; the application date extensions; the late entry arrangements; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11631/95]

All centres offering NCVA awards were advised by the NCVA, in April last, that places in certain designated regional technical college courses were being made available, through the CAO/CAS system, to holders of specific NCVA level awards, under the special pilot scheme for progression to higher education in 1995.

A list of the regional technical college courses concerned and the appropriate NCVA awards was circulated to these centres, and I am arranging to have a copy of that list forwarded to the Deputy.
The allocation of these pilot scheme places to applicants will not be known until the current CAO/CAS process has been completed.
Prospective applicants were advised by the NCVA to apply through the CAO/CAS system by the late application date of 1 May 1995, and that the CAO/CAS change of course option could be exercised until 1 July 1995.
