Vol. 455 No. 3

Written Answers - Privilege and Compellability Legislation.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

47 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Finance if independent legal advice was sought in respect of proposals to render accountable the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in view of the Attorney General's stated objections in principle to accountability to a Dáil committee in respect of his own constitutional office; and if so, the justification for the decision to exclude the Office of the DPP from the provisions proposed for such accountability. [11882/95]

I did not seek independent legal advice in relation to the matter mentioned by the Deputy. The implications of the proposed legislation on privilege and compellability for the Director of Public Prosecutions will be addressed in the draft legislation which I hope to have published in the near future.
