Vol. 455 No. 8

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ó Cuív — the need for extra funding to be provided to Galway County Council under the local improvement scheme to enable it to carry out necessary works on non county roads; (2) Deputy Hugh Byrne — the urgent need for the completion of the promised review of the decision to suspend the control of farm pollution scheme in view of the heightened danger of farm pollution during the summer months; (3) Deputy Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny)— the desirability of including a house built in the 1700s as a hotel in the Carlow urban renewal scheme taking account of the fact that the building cannot be further extended; (4) Deputy Dermot Ahern — the discrepancy between the reply to Questions Nos. 153 and 154 on 4 July and representations made to the High Court on behalf of an individual on 9 August 1995; (5) Deputy Cowen — the need for contracts to be signed to enable the much delayed Leader II programme to commence in view of the importance of this programme for rural development in Ireland and the fact that it was to commence on 1 January 1995; (6) Deputy Connaughton — the dangerous condition of the national primary route between the villages of Aughrim and Cappataggle, County Galway; (7) Deputy Eoin Ryan — the need to launch a formal appeal against the licensing of Wylfa nuclear power station with the UK nuclear inspectorate; (8) Deputy Joe Walsh — the closure of the Castletownbere, County Cork employment office and the consequent hardship that will be caused to many people in this remote region; (9) Deputy Quill — the need to clarify the commencement date for the construction of the second level school already sanctioned for the Riverstown-Glanmire area of County Cork; (10) Deputy Keogh — the failure to appoint women working in the media to the Commission on the Newspaper Industry.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Deputy Joe Walsh; Deputy Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny); Deputy Cowen and Deputy Eoin Ryan.
