Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Mayo School Extension.

Séamus Hughes

Ceist:

204 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in providing an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Mayo in view of the fact that the school population for the year 1995/1996 is practically 100 per cent greater than that for which the original school was designed and in view of the fact that the Board of Management of the school are concerned primarily on safety grounds; and if she will make a statement on the matter ensuring that the planned extension is included in the Estimates for 1996. [12968/95]

An extension of 1164m² is currently being planned for Scoil Mhuire agus Padraig, Swinford, County Mayo.

Architectural planning is proceeding and the project is currently at the developed sketch scheme stage. A letter has recently issued to the school authorities requesting clarification of certain items in this submission. Funds are being made available this year in respect of design fees. However, the question of providing capital funds for building will not arise until the planning process has been fully completed. Every effort is being made to have the planning of the extension completed as quickly as possible.

It is not possible at this stage to say if the project will be included in the 1996 Capital Estimates provision.
