Vol. 455 No. 8
312 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will extend the free travel pass to spouses even when they are under 66 years of age; the cost involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12721/95]
Under the terms of the scheme of free travel, the spouse of a passholder may accompany the pass-holder free of charge even if the spouse is under 66 years of age. The annual cost of extending free travel passes to such spouses in their own right is estimated to be about £3 million. Any such extension of the scheme could be considered only in a budgetary context and in the light of the available resources.
