Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Anti-Bovine Tuberculosis Campaign.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

348 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has for the development of the anti-bovine tuberculosis campaign; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12898/95]

The 1995 TB testing programme is proceeding with in excess of six million animal tests having been completed which is generally in line with previous years. The objective is to complete a full monitor of all herds as well as any consequential testing from reactor breakdowns. Rotation of testing which if implemented will facilitate drawdown of EU funding of some £4.2 million in respect of 1995 remains a key element of this years programme.

Discussions are currently taking place with the farming organisations on revised arrangements for the scheme for 1996 and these discussions include inter alia decentralisation of responsibility for aspects of the scheme.
