90 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health if he will establish a National Task Force to investigate and identify the extent of suicide in the State in order to help prevent it; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12933/95]
Limerick East): My Department is currently funding an intervention study on parasuicide in the Southern and MidWestern Health Board areas. The recently appointed health board Directors of Public Health are also undertaking a study of the incidence and associated risk factors in relation to suicide.
I am considering how best to ensure that all relevant data are examined with a view to informing decisions to be taken on a national suicide prevention strategy. When I have made a decision on this matter, I will communicate further with the Deputy.
