Vol. 456 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teaching Hours.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

146 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if she will reverse her decision to reduce the part-time teaching hours in a secondary school (detail supplied) in County Tipperary. [13587/95]

The allocation of part-time hours to second level schools for the current school year had to be considered in the light of the Government's decision that increases in public expenditure, including those in the education sector, must be contained.

Arising from that decision and taking into account the overall teacher allocation to the school in question, a reduced allocation of part-time hours was granted to the school for the 1995-96 school year.

The school authorities have submitted an appeal for an increased allocation. My Department is considering the matter in the context of available resources and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities as soon as possible.
