Ceist:

146 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the valuation set by independent valuers on the Horgan Quay site, Cork, prior to planning permission; that set subject to planning permission; and the comparative valuation given to CIE as against that offered for the site. [13744/95]

I proposed to take Questions Nos. 144, 145 and 146 together.

Under the Transport Acts, the board of CIE may dispose, whether absolutely or for a term of years or for any lesser period, of any property which in the opinion of the board is not required by it for the discharge of its duties. I have no function in relation to individual property disposals by the CIE board.

I have made inquiries with CIE in relation to the matters raised by the Deputy. I can confirm that, in addition to a number of expressions of interest, there was a proposal for the acquisition of the Horgan's Quay site at a price of £200,000 per acre which was accepted by the board of CIE. Prior to the making of this proposal CIE had obtained an independent valuation report which valued the site at £150,000 per acre. Cork Corporation did not submit any proposal to acquire the Horgan's Quay site.
