Vol. 456 No. 3

Written Answers. - Investigation of Allegations.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

22 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Justice the investigations, if any, that have been and are being made into allegations by the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications of surveillance on him and others; the extent of the Garda inquiry; if she has received a preliminary report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13800/95]

Deputies are aware that the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications will be making a comprehensive statement to the House very soon on all aspects of the matter raised by Deputy Harney.

In terms of facilitating a properly informed and balanced discussion on the issue in this House, which is, I am sure, what Deputies are seeking, I believe the only fair and proper course is to await the Minister's statement, rather than for me to proceed now to attempt to deal with one particular aspect of the matter, that is, the allegations concerning surveillance on the Minister and others.
