Vol. 456 No. 3

Written Answers. - Paramilitary Prisoners.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

46 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Justice the number of paramilitary prisoners serving sentences in the State; the location at which they are detained; the number that have been released since the ceasefire; the plans, if any, there are to release more prisoners prior to the completion of their sentences; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13804/95]

There are 45 paramilitary prisoners in custody at present as follows: Portlaoise, 42; Training Unit, 2; Limerick 1.

A total of 32 paramilitary prisoners have been granted early release by the Government since the ceasefire.

The question of further releases may be expected to be kept under review by the Government in the light of developments in the peace process.
