Vol. 456 No. 3

Written Answers. - Part-Time Teaching Hours.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

93 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education the reason part-time teaching hours have been reduced in a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary; if she will sanction the additional hours requested; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13826/95]

The allocation of part-time hours to second level schools for the current school year had to be considered in the light of the Government's decision that increases in public expenditure, including those in the education sector, must be contained.

My Department is currently considering appeals for increased teacher allocations from the authorities of individual schools, including the school referred to by the Deputy. These appeals are being considered in the context of available resources and decisions will be conveyed to the school authorities concerned as soon as possible.
