Vol. 456 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin City Boundary Extension.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

79 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will respond favourably to any request from Dublin City Council to extend the city boundary in view of the grave shortage of land for new public housing in Dublin City. [14263/95]

In view of the recent reorganisation which involved the establishment of three new county councils in the Dublin area, I have no proposals to extend the city boundary. However, if there are any particular local boundary anomalies — e.g. division of a premises — identified by the local authorities this matter can be addressed.

While it is desirable that Dublin Corporation should meet housing needs within the city boundary, the provision of new local authority housing is only one of a range of options available to them for this purpose.
