Vol. 456 No. 5

Written Answers. - National University of Ireland.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

93 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education when she intends to proceed with legislative changes to the structure of the National University; the academic standards oversight role she envisages for any remaining central body; whether she believes that a central graduate convocation should continue to exist; whether she believes that each constituent college should establish a graduate convocation; and whether she envisages maintaining the right of graduates to elect members of college governing bodies and central bodies. [14226/95]

As indicated in the White Paper on Education, Charting our Education Future, I intend to introduce legislation for the university sector, including amendments to the structure of the National University of Ireland. I trust the Deputy will accept that, pending the finalisation of my proposals and approval by Government, it would not be appropriate for me to comment in detail on the content of the legislation.
