Vol. 456 No. 7

Written Answers. - Electricity Production Costs.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

153 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the relative cost of producing electricity from nuclear energy, oil, coal, turf, natural gas, wind generators and hydro-electricity. [14725/95]

I regret to inform the Deputy that such information is not publicly available other than in very general terms as it is of a commercially sensitive nature.

Taking into account such factors as fuel costs, capital costs and operation and maintenance costs, broadly speaking gas tends to be cheapest followed by oil and coal and then peat, wind and hydro. Nuclear is not an option in an Irish context.
