Vol. 456 No. 7

Written Answers. - Public Transport Drivers.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

92 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment if public transport drivers and other heavy vehicle drivers can be required to turn off engines when their vehicles are parked in areas of population. [14720/95]

There is no such specific requirement in road traffic law. Regulations do, however, contain provisions in relation to excessive noise from vehicles, the necessity to prevent emissions, and requirements in relation to unattended vehicles on public roads, including, in relation to the latter, a requirement that the engine of such a vehicle is not running. Enforcement of these regulations is a matter for the Garda.
