Vol. 456 No. 8

Written Answers. - Electricity Industry.

John O'Donoghue

Ceist:

14 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will confirm that, in framing legislation for the proposed reorganisation of the electricity industry in this country, no access will be allowed to the Irish market in respect of nuclear power generation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13707/95]

In approving my proposals for the restructuring of the electricity industry on 6 June last, the Government confirmed that decisions about which fuels should or should not be used in the generation of electricity should remain with me as Minister. I can confirm that nuclear power is not envisaged as an option in the generation of electricity.
