47 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to introduce a study of the pattern of plastic bag usage in supermarkets with a view to their curtailment and eventual elimination. [14774/95]
The Industry Task Force on Recycling is currently developing an industry-led strategy for the recycling of packaging waste, including plastic packaging. I understand from recent meetings between officials of my Department and IBEC that the task force is currently working towards completion and presentation of their report in November 1995. I will give further consideration to what measures may be appropriate to deal with plastic bags and other packaging waste following receipt of this report and the enactment of the Waste Bill.
