Vol. 456 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Louth Schools.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

55 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the application by a school (details supplied) in County Louth for replacement windows; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14785/95]

A grant was sanctioned by my Department in June 1994 for the replacement of windows at Scoil Clochar Mhuire. This work is well under way and proceeding satisfactorily.

Ceist:

56 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if she will grant disadvantaged status to a school (details supplied) in County Louth; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14788/95]

I am aware that the school in question has applied for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme.

Earlier this year I commissioned the Combat Poverty Agency to conduct a detailed study of current approaches to the identification and support of pupils in disadvantaged areas. The criteria used to determine eligibility for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme are among the matters covered by the study.

A report on the outcome of this study has been received in my Department and is presently being considered by my officials. This report will provide a basis for development of future approaches in this area.

The needs of the school referred to by the Deputy will be considered in the event of an expansion of the disadvantaged areas scheme being undertaken.
