Vol. 456 No. 8

Written Answers. - Blackrock (Louth) Policing.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

61 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to ensure that Garda numbers are increased in Blackrock, County Louth, in view of the increasing population and also the recent level of crime in the area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14784/95]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda manpower and resources to individual areas. I am informed by them that the current Garda strength at Blackrock Garda Station is 1 sergeant and 2 gardaí.

The Blackrock area is patrolled on a regular basis by the gardaí attached to the local station. In addition the area is policed by way of both foot and mobile patrols by members attached to Dundalk Garda station which is manned on a 24 hour basis.

The Garda authorities have informed me that they are satisfied that the present policing arrangements for the Blackrock area are adequate to meet the needs of the area. The Garda authorities have no plans at present to alter these arrangements.
